Title : Feasibility study of using green technologies in order to supply energy and waste management of direct reduction iron plant

Abstract:

The steel industry is one of the environmentally destructive industries with high consumption of fossil energy and 8% share of air pollution. The need to use renewable energy sources to increase the efficiency and reliability of this industry is one of the global priorities, along with one of the key procedures to achieve this goal is utilizing green steel technology. Urban waste management systems such as incinerators not only manage urban waste, but by producing energy, they can meet part of the needs of steel industries. In this research, the integration of Khorasan direct reduction iron plant (DRI) in Iran with a waste incinerator system is investigated. Also, energy and economic relations are implemented on the system. Based on the results, taking into account the investment amount of 60 million dollars, the amount of 8,052,632 cubic meters of gas consumption can be saved. By eliminating the conventional method of energy supply from fossil fuels, the normal investment return of 3 years and considering the non-profit 8 years is estimated. Furthermore, this project can reduce the amount of released carbon dioxide released to the amount of 57,603 ton per year.

Audience Takwawy Notes:

  • This presentation is one of the promising cases in the field of steel and energy industries. By combination of the urban waste energy potential, the steel industry can be overcome to the energy problems.
